Another bracing 13 miles across the South Downs National Park. From Amberley, the walker is quickly climbing to join the South Downs Way, which is followed pretty much for the whole walk; a slight deviation is made to enjoy some wonderful views from Chantry Hill and towards the end near Annington Hill.
Lunch is had either in the village pub at Washington (an alternative route) or, as is the case here, after an appetite-building ascent to the ancient hill fort of Chanctonbury Ring. Here, walkers can enjoy some great 360 degree views whilst munching on their sarnies...
Thereafter, the walker enjoys further great views whilst slowly descending towards the River Adur and the riverside stroll into Shoreham.
