Flexbury - near Bude
Cornwall (north coast)
Small sandy coves with access from Bude or Northcott Mouth
Small sandy coves just over a mile north of Bude in Cornwall on a beautiful sandy beach. The nearest village is 'Flexbury'.
Getting There
Satnav: EX23 9EG (Northcott Mouth)
Bude is on the main A39 coast road or, if approaching from inland, approach on the A3072 from the direction of Holsworthy.
Having parked in Bude, the beach is a relatively short distance to the north. Alternatively, 'Free Sun' recommends following side roads north from Bude - via Flexbury - and then turning to the left in Poughill to reach Northcott Mouth (where car parking in available). From Northcott Mouth, the beach used by naturists is said to be about a quarter of a mile south - towards Bude.
"A bit of a hike but well worth it. Even at busy times you'll be one of only 10 or 12 people."

BUT there is no comment on the safety factor. Is this a place where one may swim in a depth of two/three metres without difficulty in getting back out of the water and without any danger of being swept away by cross-currents or ebbing tide. In other words: Does "more than just sunbathing" include leisurely skinny-dipping?

I couldn't walk along the beach to the area described due to the tide, so I walked from Northcott Mouth as far South as I could, and the beach there was quiet enough to strip off without a problem even on a warm Sunday afternoon in July. The handfull of dog walkers and other beach users didn't raise any objections. I didn't see any othr naturists.

Stunning beach with great waves for enjoying. At low water there is plenty of passing textile traffic walking between Bude and Sandymouth at the waters edge but if you are at the top of the beach they will be some way off. One other naturist couple enjoying the surf while I was there (regulars from a nearby town). Facilities at Sandymouth Beach (National Trust) can be reached at all but high water (cafe open June-Sep, not sure if toilets all year). Can't stress enough how fantastic this beach and surf is - great fun for more than just sun bathing.

Just got back from 'Flexbury'. Really it should be called 'A bit south of Northcott Mouth' As I could not see any signs saying Flexbury. Directions above are accurate. What a lovely beach! The tide was out so the sand was nice and smooth. There are plenty of rocky outcrops extending from the cliff-side to settle near and to shelter from the wind. I did not see any other naturists, but the locals with their dogs out for a walk did not bat an eyelid as if it's quite normal. I would highly recommend this beach for so many reasons. Mostly it's staggering beauty!
