Naturist / Nudist Beaches in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland
Newborough Warren - Malltraeth Bay
Anglesey
Large sandy beach, backed by pine forest, about 2km walk from car park
Newborough Warren and the nearby beach at Malltraeth Bay are situated at the south-west corner of the island of Anglesey - 'Ynys Mon' in the Welsh langauge.
Getting There
Satnav: LL61 6SG, OS Map Ref: SH 387 640
From the Menai Bridge on the A5, take the A4080 south to the village of Newborough (Niwbwrch). From there, a road - signposted "To the Beach / Traeth" - leads south to a car park on the coast - approx. 2 miles. The Forestry Commission car park at Newborough Beach charge is currently £3.
Walk from the car park on to the beach and turn right (heading North in the direction of Llandwyn Island) towards the rocky promontory at Llanddwyn Island. Beyond this lies Malltraeth Bay and an area used by naturists - "a beautiful but plain, exposed and windy beach with open water." The walk from the car park is two to three miles in total.
Alternatively, turn left from the car park (heading south) and walk until the beach curves left a little at some high sand dunes. From here, the crowded part of the beach is more or less out of sight. There is room to sit amongst the edge of the dunes (but please don't go into them as they are an esential nature reserve and any walking could damage the sensitive fauna cover of the dunes).
Description
Described as having "breathtaking landscape and unspoilt sands" and " superb views of Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsular" this is one of several beautiful beaches along this part of the coast. Newborough Warren is also a nature reserve. The beach itself is of fine, golden sand, backed by dunes. On-shore winds from the Irish Sea can be a problem at times. It is said that most naturists gather in the area to the south of the car park - midway between Llanddwyn Island and Abermenai Point:
"At high season - textiles do walk along here sometimes - just be sensible and don't be obvious. If you see the warden coming along the beach in his 4x4 - cover up - he is known to get just a tad irate! This area does have a regular gay group - but as a woman I feel safer amongst them than amongst "straight" people! Waters here are sheltered, and quite warm as the tide goes out, with shallow pools that you can wallow in. Views are unbelievably fantastic - especially on a sunny evening."
Facilities You're joking, of course. Bring your own supplies!

I went nude on this beach back in the summer of '76 when I had just quit my job in Bangor. I stayed (naked) in this fantastic location for 3 days and 2 nights sleeping in the back of a mini van with my mate at the time. Not expert campers, we only had cider for sustainance and played paralytic football at 2am with a rolled up sock in the moonlight. In those days we were the only people there...

I have to agree with Terry. This is a really tranquil, lovely spot and you definitely shouldn't allow the fact that it's not an official nude beach put you off giving it a try.

I have been visiting this beach for over 15 years and have not had any problems. When you pass Llanddwyn Island, walk for about 15 to 20 minutes and you won't get many people there. At the weekends, a couple, probably locals, sit in front of the dunes, once you are past them, they won't bother you. Many times, ramblers and dog walkers walk past, but they have always ignored me. I live 100 miles from this beach, but it is well worth the trip.

Hi, I went to this beach for the first time last summer- As well as beautiful scenery, I found it clean, quiet with a healthy and relaxed attitude to naturism.

Lovely, huge (3-4 miles?) clean beach in a beautiful location - the bay north of the island was virtually empty. I saw - I think - two textile families, but no-one else - although this was a Friday. If you have a dog - they should stay south of the beach entrance, which is a textile area, but I can't see anyone objecting north of the island as there was no-one there!
