Getting There
From Sandown train station, walk down to the beach, and head east along the sea front, passing the car park. Continue, then either take the cliff top path (or continue along the beach) until you come to a path down to the beach. Continue along the sand for a way. About 2 miles / 3 km.
Satnav: PO36 8QB. Yaverland Beach car park is hand but pricey a £2.90 (2 hrs) £4.80 (4 hrs) £6.20 (6 hrs) £9 (all day), year round, in 2022. You can park in the zoo car park opposite for £3, or in the residential streets back from the front for free. Walk east along the coast path as above. About 1 mile / 1.5 km
Satnav: PO36 8QY. You could park at one of the free car parks on Culver Hill (pub, great views), and walk west along the coast path, until you come to the path down to the beach. It's 99m, (300ft) back uphll to your car though. The first car park after the fort is closest (i.e. before the pub). Its about 1.5km (1 mile) alomg the coast path to the cut down to the beach.
Description
Yaverland beach is north of Sandown on the Isle of Wight. It’s a mile long and at low tide, offers acres of sand and safe swimming. The far end, beyond the red cliffs has been naturist for many years and on a warm day can attract a good crowd. Occasional dog walkers rarely bat an eye. "It’s a great place!"
Care is needed walking by the red cliffs, as there are regular falls and half tide or lower is ideal.
At low tide, one has to walk quite a way before the sea is deep enough to swim.
On Spring high tides, the nude section gets cut off for a few hours and the pebble bank remains above the tide line.
