Walk Notes

A linear walk

This walk is recommended only for those who are (or are accompanied by someone) reasonably proficient at map reading.

This is the fourth walk of a series of 5 walks from east to west Sussex. The others are:

  1. Robertsbridge to Uckfield
  2. Uckfield to Pease Pottage
  3. Steyning to Cocking
  4. Cocking to South Harting

Split the walk

It is fairly straightforward to split the main walk into two sections.

  • First section: From Steyning to Amberley (21.1km)
  • Second section: From Amberley to Cocking (23.7km)

Walk Options

Starting at Amberley

Catch the train from London Victoria to pick up the main walk to Cocking (23.7km)

Ending at Amberley

Finish at Amberley after 21km. Catch the train from Amberley railway station.

Ending at Washington after nnkm

Catch 23 bus at the stop by the Recreation Ground (final destination Crawley) to Horsham railway station(~40 mins)

Catch 100 bus at the stop by the Recreation Ground to Pulborough railway station (~20 mins) or further on to Horsham railway station (~80 mins).

Ending at Storrington after 13km

Catch 100 bus at the Rectory Road bus stop on West Street (by junction West Road / Rectory Road) to Pulborough railway station (~12 mins) or further on to Horsham railway station (~70 mins).

Ending at Duncton after nnkm

Catch the infrequent 99 bus (no Sunday service) from the Cricketers PH to Chichester(~70 mins)

Transport

Trains go from London Victoria to Pulborough, journey time ~75 minutes. On arrival at Pulborough catch the 100 bus from the stop at the bottom of Station Approach to The Clock Tower, Steyning. (Final destination Burgess Hill.)

Suggested Train: Take the train nearest to 9.00am.

Return from Cocking by the 60 bus from the bus stop next to a garage and diagonally opposite from The Blue Bell PH to Chichester (~30 mins).
