A linear walk

This walk is recommended only for those who are (or are accompanied by someone) reasonably proficient at map reading.

This is the second walk of a series of 5 walks from east to west Sussex. The others are:

431. Robertsbridge to Uckfield
433. Pease Pottage to Steyning
434. Steyning to Cocking
435. Cocking to South Harting

It is fairly straightforward to split the main walk into two sections.

• First section: From Uckfield to Horsted Keynes (15½km)
• Second section: From Horsted Keynes to Pease Pottage (21km)

Starting at Horsted Keynes

Catch the 270 bus from Perrymount Road by Haywards Heath station (or the other direction from East Grinstead station) to The Green, Horsted Keynes to pick up the main walk to Pease Pottage (21km)

Ending at Horsted Keynes

A convenient exit (15½km) into the walk at Horsted Keynes for the 270 bus to Haywards Heath station (or the other direction to East Grinstead station).

Ending at Balcombe station

Cuts the length of the walk by 6.7km to 29.8km

Starting or ending at Ardingly

Catch the less frequent 272 bus between Ardingly and Haywards Heath or the other direction between Ardingly and Three Bridges station. (Uckfield to Ardingly: 21.2km; Ardingly to Pease Pottage: 15.3km )

Trains go from London Bridge to Uckfield, journey time just over an hour.

Suggested Train: Take the train nearest to 9.10am.

Return from Pease Pottage Woodgate by the frequent 20 bus (24 hour service) to Three Bridges station (~25 mins), Gatwick (~30 mins) or Horley Station (~40 mins) for train services to London.

Starting / ending at Horsted Keynes: Catch the 270 bus to / from Perrymount Road by Haywards Heath station (~20 mins) or to / from East Grinstead station (~30 mins).

Starting / ending at Ardingly: Infrequent (no Sunday service) 272 bus to / from Perrymount Road by Haywards Heath station (~15 mins) or to / from Three Bridges station (~35 mins).

Finishing at Balcombe station for train services to London.
