Walk Notes |
The Via Podiensis (Le Puy route, GR65) is one of 4 pilgrimage routes through France linking up to the Camino de Santiago at the Spanish border It follows the footstep of the Bishop of Le Puy who made the pilgrimage in 950/951 AD Its about 30 days of walking. As in Spain, you need to obtain a créanciale (crédentiale) from a cathedral or French Tourist Office which allows you to use a network of pilgrim's hostels (gîtes d’étape) along the route. There is variant of the route via Rocamadou (a pilgrimage site) The Via Gebennensis from Geneva feeds in to the route, with pilgrims from Switzerland,Germany and beyond. |
