7 punters started the walk, meeting 1 other later on in the park, so 8 in dry weather.

Traces of mud after this morning's rain, but nothing too worrying.

All 8 had a convivial meal at The Cock Inn.

5 walkers initially, with 1 other running late and catching up, so 6 in fine spring like weather .

Always a nice walk this. Some of the bridleways today were severely rutted after recent rainy weather, but there was almost always an escape route to the sides.

We followed the route to Camlet Moat, then double-backed along the London Loop through the large clearing in the valley, as tried and tested on previous outings. Got to The Cock for 20.40, and settled in the garden for drinks and nibbles.

6 off the tube initially, with a couple of those slightly late, and later we bumped into the walk's creator near the end, so 7 in total, in perfect conditions, namely warm and sunny with a breeze .

None of the early 6 had been to the park before and we were pleasantly surprised: quiet, scenic, with some far views, mildly undulating, mostly woody, but with some large grassy clearings, plenty of streams and a grand house, plus a large and well-preserved medieval moat in the woods. We improvised the given route a bit to see more of the clearings and the hay meadows and tree-lined avenues on expense of some of the wooded stretches.

Got to The Cock Inn just before 9 and also just in time to place food orders: very tasty stuff in nice surroundings. Only negative: despite 4 hand pumps only one ale and that was out by the time the walk creator arrived.

Also some 'Luxury Apartments' development by the Middlesex Uni buildings in the first third of the route...

Did anyone go on this? I got to Cockfosters a bit late as expected, followed the first half of the walk more or less as described but didn't see anyone. I took a couple of shortcuts on the way back but away from the mapped route, the paths are pretty sketchy. It was dry and sunny ,-if-anything-a-bit-muggy.

    N - 3

    W - near perfect.

Odd absence of walkers on this, given that the route begins beside the station, and the fine weather. All that we needed were deer. Perhaps the walk setter could book some for the next posting?

Sorry to miss you, Sandy. We went astray early on. Yes, the paths are pretty sketchy. The lovely Trent Park itself (the former Sassoon mansion turned university) was cordoned off. Some to become flats, apparently. Good, reasonably priced food in the pub at the end.
