North of the route : There is a gap between Heathfield and Groombridge where the off road Forest Way starts. There is a waymarked on-road route - NCN 21 South of the route : The southerly (4 miles, 7 km) end of the route, from Polegate to Eastbourne, is an unscenic, but traffic free continuation of the route to Eastbourne's seafront - alongside busy roads.
