Kennet and Avon Canal Bike Ride
A canal side towpath through rural England
Length | 96.9 miles (156.0 km) |
---|---|
Toughness | 4 / 10 |
Off Road | 95% - canal towpath. Between Great Bedwyn and Devizes (roughly the middle 35 miles), the towpath is muddy and narrow in places, so the official, NCN path doesn't follow the canal. Its is passable - just take care and give extra priority to anglers and pedestrians on narrow sections |
Features |
Follow a tranquil towpath from Reading through Wiltshire to Bradford upon Avon, over an aqueduct and eventually to Bath. Links up with the Thames Path in the east, and a disused railway line path to Bristol, and Bath's famous '2 Tunnels' path in the west |
Travel |
London Paddington to Reading, Bath and Bristol. There are cheaper trains from Waterloo to Bath only. You'll need to reserve bike places on these trains The route follows a railway line for the entire way, so there are plenty of places to cut it short |
