swcwalks, swcwalk30, Battle Circular. 5/5/22amib, May-22
This was another update of a 'Wealden Wonder', last undertaken in September, 2010.
Officially 12.7 miles, this walker recorded 13.5 on a lovely walking day; sunny intervals with a gentle breeze, and wonderful Spring scenery.
Leaving Battle station, the walker soon passes the Abbey and joins the 1066 Country Walk, which is followed all the way to Ashburnham Forge.
Being around 6.5 miles in, lunch is had here using improvised facilities.
Thereafter, there's plenty more woodland walking, with a few pasture crossings onto Netherfield, which is the pub lunch stop. There are fine views of the South Downs from up here.
The views open up a bit more after Netherfield, though there is a further nice wooded section shortly before Battle.
A delightful walk for those enjoying Nature and tranquillity, with some wonderful views. Highly recommended.
P.S. The Latin inscription on the gate house is the family motto of the Bracey/Brassey family.
