The South Downs : Windover and 'High and Over' Hills, and picturesque Alfriston. Can be extended with a chalk cliff coastal walk to Seaford.
This walk is along Eastbourne’s pleasant seafront, and then follow the coast into a hidden valley (with fine downland flowers and butterflies in summer), from where it is a steep climb up onto Beachy Head.
We carry on from Birling Gap along the coast over the Seven Sisters to Except, a strenuous but very scenic.

SWC Free Walk 90, Berwick to Seaford. 10/5/11.amib, May-11
Around 13 miles of walking through familiar territory, but from a different 'angle'. The 'Long Man of Wilmington' dominates the morning section, which is mainly along the level Weald Way, culminating in lunch from above his head (Windover Hill)! His views are worth the ascent!
After lunch, which could equally be taken in the Pub at Wilmington, it's another level section beside The Cuckmere River before ascending High and Over Hill for some dramatic views over the river, the Haven and the Channel beyond.
After that, the walk drops down to The Vanguard Way at Exceat Bridge to rejoin The South Downs Way, with its fine views of The Seven Sisters, and the finale into Seaford.
A fine walk, with contrasting landscapes and scenery. Highly recommended!
('unknown' bird is a Lesser Whitethroat, I believe).
