Did the walk again today to see what it would be like in the summer months - definitely would recommend. No real muddy patches or overgrown parts, a very quiet and pleasant countryside walk, ideal for summer. Took the shortcut along cycle route 403 that I mentioned it my previous comment, probably a bit less scenic than the intended route but infinitely less confusing and stressful!

Finally got around to doing this walk today. There were a few muddy patches even after the prolonged dry spell we've been having lately, so reckon this walk would get very boggy after any rain. But would definitely recommend it as one to try during the warmer months!
I made use of the GPS file on the OS Map app - for the most part the directions were very clear and easy to follow. However, during the final section heading back into Chippenham the recommended route was very overgrown and difficult to navigate - not helped by a lack of footpath posts and farmers ploughing over the footpath. Would imagine the overgrown aspect would be even worse in summer. Would recommend that instead of taking the footpath along the River Marden off Stanley Lane that people instead make use of the Cycle Route 403 (which you also pass on Stanley Lane on your way to the intended route) to head in a straight line directly back to Chippenham.
