Hever Castle across lake v1
I took this Monday off work to have my first country walk of the year - yippee! It had been a glorious weekend but Monday was a little cloudier and chillier.... less comfortable, but better conditions for photographs. I walked from Hever to Leigh in Kent, England, and my first stop was at Hever Castle. This is my first shot of Hever Castle from across the 'lake' at the front - more panoramic than the second one. Not sure which I prefer though!

See v1 for comparison. This is my second shot of Hever Castle from across the 'lake' at the front. It has a better angle on the bridge and I like the way the lake takes up more of the foreground, but it is less panoramic. I think I prefer this one, but I'm not sure!

the flooded River Medway
The middle section of the Medway above Tonbridge, because of the many tributaries entering the river in this stretch, has always been subject to extensive flooding. The town itself has suffered frequent flooding over the centuries - so much so that the higher part of the town to north is called Dryhill. Flood protection measures have therefore had priority. In 1981, a flood barrier was constructed near Leigh to protect Tonbridge, which had been severely affected by the flooding of 1968. During periods of high flow, the downstream flow is controlled by allowing up to 1 square mile (2.6 km2) of farmland upstream of the barrier to flood
