A return to an old haunt, after an absence of 12 years! This one being in Leigh, Kent, to walk the 11.7 miles to Tunbridge Wells.
It was a pleasant day, with a mix of sun and cloud, and a decent temperature.
Shortly after leaving the station, it's on to a section of the Eden Valley walk to pass through a wooded section of the Penshurst Estate. Passing the House and church, the route soon arrives at Smarts Hill, where the recommended lunch time pubs are, but this walker presses on to follow the River Medway for a while, and climb up to the perfectly positioned All Souls' chapel at Poundsbridge.
After a pleasant sojourn here, there's more classic Kentish scenery of oasts, wooded hills and small lakes before joining the Weald Way for a short while. Thereafter, there's more woods, private roads and commons before arriving in Tunbridge Wells.
A very nice choice for this walker's return to updating some of the older, mobile films, with little apparent change. Path surfaces were good, though Kent still remains a problem county for stiles. Otherwise, highly recommended.
10.8 miles of walking through the a corner of the 'Garden of England'; initially, passing through the grounds of Penshurst Place, then passing by lakes, rivers, though woods and over gentle hills to lunch at Smart's Hill. The afternoon section passes by the River Medway, then through woods and parks into Tunbridge.
