  • Milford to Godalming. 3/8/23
    amib, Aug-23

This is an update of a top quality 12 mile (11 'officially') walk in the Surrey Hills last undertaken in 2010. The weather was decent, with minor north-westerly gusts (not affecting commentary) and it had rained the preceding night.

The path from the station leads the walker past the timber-framed Enton Mill and then onto the wonderful little church of Saint Peter's, Hambledon.

Thereafter, the Greensand Way is followed and some outstanding views enjoyed, with an excellent wooded section through The Hurtwood. Soon, the village of Hascombe is reached, where this walker has lunch at the wonderful church of Saint Peter, with its amazing internal decoration. The pub option is very close by.

After lunch, the path comes to the National Trust's arboretum at Winkworth for another fine section of walking.

The finale is along the the Trust's River Wey and Godalming Navigation, past the church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul and so to the station.

A very good walk, with decent paths today (for the most part!) and reasonable weather. Much of the walk is wooded, but there are also fine views to be had, and not too-much disturbance from Man. Recommended!
