This was originally intended to be a walk of part of the new 'Shipwrights' Way', but, after a mile or so of that, and discovering that it was mainly road walking, the walker decided to integrate it with Free Walk 18. This proved to be a good idea as the latter goes off the beaten track and, thus, provides much better views.
The Shipwrights' Way/South Downs Way was followed through the forest at Queen Elizabeth's Country Park, where a useful, sheltered seating area was used for lunch.
Thereafter, the walker rejoins Free Walk 18 at the village of Charlton, crossing its Down, with fine views, on to Finchdean, along the Sussex Border Path and so on to Rowlands Castle.
A very pleasant walk, combining the two walks as done here. It's most likely that Free Walk 18 in itself would also provide a better alternative to this section of 'The Shipwrights' Way' as that has definitely been designed with the less-able walker in mind, which means more hard surfaces and not so good views.
