  • Princes Risborough to Wendover. 18/1/20.

This was a re-walk of a 10.5 mile walk filmed 10 years ago on the walker's mobile phone. This version, however, omits Great Kimble/Smoky Row to become a shorter walk of around 9 miles.

It was done in almost perfect walking conditions; a cold, sunny day. It follows the Ridgeway path, for the most part, and undulates through the typical Chiltern scenery of Beech woods and chalk downlands. There are great views across the Vale of Aylesbury/The Three Hundreds from Whiteleaf and Coombe Hills and some nice sections through nature reserves.

The Prime Minister's country retreat at Chequers is passed before a short lunch break is had at Dunsmore's village pond.

The afternoon section passes through the now threatened Wendover Woods; HS2, as indicated by several notices, will decimate this ancient woodland. This must not happen!

The walk concludes at dusk back in the village of Wendover.

A highly recommended walk, even with its many muddy paths towards the end. How much longer it lasts depends on Man's incessant encroachment of our Green and Pleasant land. Let's hope Boris looks out of his Chequer's windows and makes the right call on HS2!

A straightforward 10 mile walk, mainly along the Ridgeway. Undulating, through high beech woods and chalk downlands, prior to lunch in Great Kimble. The afternoon section passes close to the PM's country pad at Chequers, then up to Coombe Hill for some great views of Aylesbury Vale before descending down to Wendover.
