We did this walk on a very sunny Sunday in early March. We walked the shorter version through Nutfield. The instructions were very clear.

For a town just outside London, we were surprised at how rural the walk was. The winter season gave us lots of views...and also lots of mud! But it was worth it

@Martin: thanks for the feedback. You're probably the first person to try the longer version of this new walk. A bedraggled group trying out the shorter version in the rain a few weeks ago were just happy to get round in one piece.

The directions in [36] were indeed a bit vague so I've changed that. And although the walk does have more than its fair share of awkward roads to walk along or cross, I agree that the word 'carefully' was used a bit too liberally so I've pruned some of them.

It was an enjoyable walk, which I did in early November. I much appreciate the work of those who put these walks together and write up the directions, which are generally very helpful. But one plea; while I appreciate your concern for my safety, I would welcome one or two more compass bearings and one or two fewer injunctions to cross roads carefully. I went wrong after going under the M23 at 36, by concluding that the footpath on the right, going uphill, was the one I was supposed to ignore. That’s obviously my own silly fault, but a compass bearing would have made me less likely to err. The reference to North at 63 was very helpful. And I have crossed, and walked along, enough roads to believe I can take reasonable care, whether or not I’m encouraged to!
