swcwalks swcwalk 165, St. Margarets Circular (short walk), 25/11/17.amib, Dec-17
A classic late November day for this 13 miler in East Herts. A chill breeze throughout, but minimal noise interference as a solution now appears to have finally been found!
It was touch and go whether the walker would complete this walk prior to dusk, but the mission was accomplished - just! Plenty of arable fields; a wooded section; Cold Christmas hamlet; riverside strolls; a disused railway line (unlikely to be restored by Grayling!); a nature reserve and some canal-side walking. Unusually, no churches after the initial one in St Margarets, so lunch was had 8 miles into the walk at a handily placed picnic table in Wareside.
A few navigational issues, due to a number of damaged finger posts, meant a few extra metres and minutes wasted, so the birds were roosting by the time Amwell Nature Reserve was reached. Some species were visible, but no Otters seen, unfortunately.
Another varied walk in East Herts that's well worth a visit.
