4 regulars met at the main exit to the Wimbledon train station and took some time to check the other exit for any others before setting off along the alternate route to the Common using quieter roads. It was very atmospheric walking through the light woods in the Common on mostly broad paths which were easy to follow in the darkness. Naturally, we made and corrected some errors. We eventually arrived at an open space on a hill adjacent to Wimbledon Park (where the fireworks were). A few other groups also seemed to congregate here.... On investigation -- none were local and one group from East London had come on the advice of Chat GBT! Eventually some fireworks started a bit to the side of where they were expected -- but were muted, low and far away -- disappointing in a word... then as we were about to leave, about 10-15 minutes late -- a more grand display commenced in the spot anticipated by the walk poster... These were quite good and only slightly obscured by some trees. After the grand finale, we set off back towards the village and give the late hour popped into the first descent looking pub still serving food -- a Youngs -- the food was good, but a bit slow in coming and a bit pricey than the Young's pubs in the less illustrious Southeast side of London! A fun night out in dry slightly chilly conditions .
An A road (can be avoided by a slightly longer route along residential streets) at start and finish and in-between: Wimbledon Common and Putney Vale.

5 walkers met outside the station and agreed to follow the newly added residential road option out of Wimbledon and then the A road (High Street) route on the way back, to pass the 'tea' options.
A very agreeable route, with lots of tree cover (handy on this day of intermittent spittle ), some heathland, some scrub, some grassland. All in, a good mix, also including a short stretch along the Beverley Brook and a passing of the windmill on the Common, as well as a heron in a pond. There were some rumblings by the two local walkers about the route missing out some of the best bits of the Common, but who am I to judge? It was my first ever foray into this postcode (on a walk).
We got back into town onto the High Street at 20.15 hours and settled for the first (of many) good food options: The Rose & Crown (Young's).
A very good evening walk option.
