A gentle walk through the Weald to Poundgate, with some nice views of the Weald and the distant South Downs.

Another wonderful walk in the East Sussex Weald not previously done by this walker. This one being a 10 mile circular of Buxted, undertaken on a decent Good Friday afternoon with sunny intervals and a SE breeze.

It's a walk of woods, clearings, sheep (surprisingly, and happily, no cattle!) and quiet country lanes. The birds are in song and the flowers just emerging.

In the absence of a conveniently located church, lunch is had in a bluebell wood, soon after the noisy A26 pub option.

The main Vanguard Way route is taken back to Buxted.

The paths were good today, which isn't always the case in The Weald, but when they are, it adds to the pleasure of walking here.

One of this walker's favourite areas as it still retains a lot of what most of the English countryside is now missing. Only the distant murmur of Gatwick rarely disturbs the peace.

(The steam train at Eridge was running through to Tunbridge Wells on the Spa Valley Line. Another piece of nostalgia seen before the walk).
